X is for … Xylophone

A child’s xylophone has got to be the most musically abused instrument around.  So why do they make xylophones for children so very high pitched?

  1. That’s a good question.
Because the pitch is so high, it has a ‘tinny’ quality which doesn’t sound very pleasant and so it does not contribute towards enhancing a child’s musical ear.
