About Behind the Willows

My uncle likes to say that once you become a parent, you realize why it is that ferrets eat their young. Now that I am a parent of three, I think he might be onto something.

I can just picture the ferret mom losing it after rephrasing “No, you may not have a cookie.” for the twelfth time – snap- no more baby ferrets. This sad fact of ferret life is likely because ferrets cannot type. If ferrets could type, we would no doubt see their little ferret blogs all over the web as they express the frustration and humor in their lives. As the ferret moms learned to see the humor in their lives, the stress of parenthood would be relieved and their young would safely grow up to be well behaved adult ferrets and someday raise babies of their own.

If we were talking about ferrets of course.

I just live in the midst of an orchard with my husband, three girls, two dogs, three cats and an under-appreciated dove.

Some days we are farmers. Some days we are readers or athletes, photographers or bakers, hunters or gardeners and always we are terrible housekeepers.

And me, I’m the blogger – just because I can sympathize with the ferrets doesn’t mean I want to become one!

Thanks for visiting!

    Hi,
I think I figured out their your daughter’s name is Clara. So is mine. It’s a very sophisticated and old fashioned name. I was named after my Grandmother. šŸ™‚
Just thought I would share. Thanks!

  6. Hi Jessie-
As the mom of now three grown daughters, it’s worth refusing the ferret approach!! The friends you have in daughters is a life-time of rich experience and memory-making. They can be a bit trying as teen-agers, but the lessons you learn about yourself during those years are powerful and positively impacting. Smiles, Jane

  7. Hi Jessie. I enjoy your blog and so have nominated you for The Versatile Blogger Award. I know award posts are timely so no pressure to reciprocate. Here is the link, enjoy. http://thesundogdrift.wordpress.com/2014/02/08/6-awards-9-puppies-and-a-mama/

Thank you for thinking of me – but I”ll say right off the bat that I’m terrible at responding to these. Perhaps I will do like you did and do them all at once!

  8. I love your blog! It’s interesting and quirky. I’ll be back for more.

  9. Hehe. I can understand the ferret, but I choose to walk another path.

I love that picture!!! The ferret thing is interesting, reminds me of this post I saw the other day: “Toddler: noun. Small creature who is only hungry after you throw away the food they refused to eat the first eight times you offered it to them.” šŸ˜›

I’m still smiling at your opening line! I so remember my son’s babyhood and the sense of total confusion and frustration. Glad your blog is theraputic – as well as intersting for us. Win.Win!!

    • Jessie says:

I’m glad you find it interesting, it makes the therapeutic part even better. I love that people like yourself take the time to comment. After all I’m pretty sure that some days this blog is the only place where people are listening to what I say! :)(My fantastic husband excluded from that of course but he does have to go to work!)

      • Su Leslie says:

Thanks; I so know what you mean. I have a teenage son and an often overseas husband. I know that some days my blogging whanau (Maori word: loosely means family – I use it a lot) are my best chance of conversation. Glad to “meet” you šŸ™‚

I’m visiting from the WordPress 201 Challenge and really like the look of your blog – especially the photolinks to categories – very nice! And I haven’t scrolled back far enough, but the laundry numbers are random, yes? Please yes?

    • Jessie says:

Hi Louise, thanks for visiting and the nice complements! The laundry numbers are totally random but I have discovered something – I tend to choose the same random number off the top of my head. I always have to go back and double check when I pick a new one because chances are good I’ve already used it once -weird hey?
