The sight of a freshly alphabetized bookshelf brings with it a deep satisfaction.
I may have a pigeon living in the house, a sink full of dirty dishes, a desk piled high with things to do and the specter of the first Monday after a time change looming over me.
But my bookshelf is organized.
So I can’t have lost my grip completely yet.
Right?
(Pssst. The only correct answer here is “Right!”)
How about you, what random act brings immense satisfaction to your life?
Clothes organized in a closet by colored hangers and rehung on the right side of each color block when laundered.
Also, are your books alphabetical by title or author? Inquiring libraries want to know.
My side of the closet is a pit of despair that Ivy is completely horrified by. My books however are alphabetical by author’s last name as is proper and civilized.
Right!
Wait, you mean they are supposed to be alphabetized? *glances at shelves* Um…I think I’m doing it wrong.
Otherwise I can’t find anything and I love to loan out books to people but it takes away all the fun if you can’t find it when you want it!
I have mine sorted by topic…
But “Right!” anyway 🙂
I’m a fan of any system that works! 🙂
Looks very satisfying! Any good non fiction recommendations?
Sure! Consider the Fork, The Lion in the Living Room, Ravens in Winter, The Sports Gene… 🙂
Um… alphabetised by author? Title? Subdivided by genre? Dewey-decimal system? The correct answer in my case is NO way—life is WAY too short. (Unless it’s November, and I’m doing NaNo, and I still owe my computer another 1700 words and all of a sudden organising the bookshelves doesn’t sound like nearly so bad an idea…)
True confession time… I organized the book shelf while putting off taking a video of myself in front of it… I don’t like having to video myself and I’m sure no one would have cared but procrastination is a beautiful thing!
I am having some shelf envy right now, because you seem to have enough shelves for all of your books. They look great!
Weeding quack grass at my own pace is almost always satisfying for me.
Well, we made a pile of books we should part ways with- that’s always hard for me and there are other mess piles of books in the house not pictured…
Weeding is a very satisfying job I agree with that. but books stay sorted longer than weeds stay away!
Right! 😀

As someone who stacks all their books in weird and wonderful ways, which makes it extremely awkward and difficult to find anything that is not on my Kindle, I wholly agree that an organised bookshelf is just the ticket to feeling just tickety-boo about life in general. A place for everything and everything in its place, especially when it comes to your favourite books 🙂
