Push Up Confession

I have a confession.

I haven’t done my push ups in over two weeks and I’m scared to start again.

I’m not sure how it got to be so long, something about a lot of excuses and then getting sick on top of it and skipping them even though I know if you start skipping workouts it gets really hard.

So tomorrow I’m diving back in again.

I know there are a pile of people who have started doing push ups as well, and I know that there’s a really big chunk of that pile that has slowly dropped out.

I’m hoping a few of you will join me getting back on the program again.

Then tomorrow when we’re done with our sets and our bodies have been reduced to a quivering mess and we are irritated that we can’t do as many reps as we used to, we’ll know we aren’t alone.

If the misery loves company angle isn’t motivating enough for you try this:

Nine of us have posted our push ups on the Google document. Only one person was able to do more than 50 push ups in the beginning and many were under ten.

Now the nine of us since February have collectively done…

10,215 push ups!

Amazing.

So make it your May resolution, call it a favor to yourself (Here is Jenny’s post if you need a reminder why), call it my early birthday present, call it whatever you like and do your push ups tomorrow, (or start the program, http://hundredpushups.com) and let us know how it goes!

How’s the Push Ups?

Things I have learned while doing my push ups:

1) Six weeks of push ups is enough to have people comment on your arm muscles.

2) This is a program that works…if you don’t skip and don’t cheat. Taking off time for being sick still counts as skipping and cheating when it’s time to do another test.

3) Do not attempt to read the charts if you are confused with your < and > symbols, this will result in frustration, pain and feeling like an idiot.

4) OFG’s can do a heck of a lot of push ups!

5) John really hates Rod Stewart, but it will apparently push him to greater push up heights before he quits in favor of running.

6) This preference for running is nothing like the behavior of the man I married… I suspect aliens.

7) Fun music (not Rod Stewart) helps when I do push ups.

8 ) So does a dirty floor- can’t collapse in a heap if you are afraid of your floor.

9) I am brilliant at discovering excuses not to do housework.

10) If you tell enough people about a crazy work out idea, many will join you, others will join them, push up craziness will spread. It will be awesome and inspirational!

I know you are all out there, leave a comment, tell us how it’s going, tell us about your friends, inspire us all!!!

Then check out my cousin Jenny’s blog if you need even more reasons to do push ups: http://skiingmama.wordpress.com/2011/03/10/how-many-push-ups-can-you-do/

Don’t forget you can see how those of us brave enough to broadcast our results are doing here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AkCenthS4rIwdFowaS1ja1JmNEtraFFYalhOY1JNSlE&hl=en&authkey=CNvHxIQB#gid=0

Feel free to join at anytime!!!

Push Up Report

It’s just over a Week into the push ups and things are going well.

Some of you have even joined me in my sore arms and crazy plans.

Cara has set up a cool spreadsheet the likes of which I never knew existed for us to chart our progress together.

Jenny’s been doing her sets while making breakfast.

Uncle Weasel says he can do 8.

And so far I’m still ahead of John.

So come, join us, do push ups!

In just a few minutes you too can have trouble lifting your arms the next day!

If you have joined us in secret please consider joining our spreadsheet.  It’s a place to see how you are progressing, see how others are doing, and see the “grand total” of push ups done by everyone. So far those of us on it have done 703 push ups and I think that’s pretty darn cool.

Happy Push Ups!

Hundred Push Ups Anyone?

Once upon a time…

I found a website with a program where the goal was one hundred consecutive push ups no matter how many you could do to start with. I thought this was excellent and started the program. After a few weeks I was able to do 50 consecutive push ups.

Then I started having trouble with my back hurting.

Then I found out I was three months pregnant.

Then I quit.

The End.

Now I’m trying again, because…

1) Once my Mom told me if you are going to do one thing for exercise it should be a push up, and I always do what my Mom tells me to.

2) Spring is coming and I need muscles to do fun things like paddlemove sheep and hang laundry on the line.

3) My jeans do not stretch quite enough to keep up with the stretching my middle is doing.

4)John hates push ups. Therefore he doesn’t want to do them with me. Therefore I will soon be able to do more push ups than him. This gives me bragging/teasing rights over my husband. This is always a good thing!

5) Lets be honest, being able to do a hundred push ups would just be pretty awesome!

So I’ve started the program again and to keep myself on task I’m telling all of you.  (Theoretically there is a push up logger that will automatically tweet things for me when I do my workouts, but right now it’s smarter than me…) Admittedly I’m also hoping someone might want to join me, anyone? anyone? If so, you can follow the link in the picture below to the website, it’s easy to get started, it’s only a few minutes three times a week, and all the cool kids are doing it…

Anyone?
