The Worst Part of Being an Adult

The worst part of being a card carrying, full fledged adult is going to the dentist.

It’s being responsible enough to drive yourself to a place that you loathe with every fiber of your being. A place that will likely cause you at least some amount of pain and suffering. And then, as if all that wasn’t bad enough, you’ll fork over lots of money and promise to come back.

Going to the dentist is the worst.

Maybe the dentist isn’t your worst thing.

But whatever your worst thing is, if you had to do it today, try this.

Take a Diet Coke (or another fantastic beverage of choice) sit down and look at this lamb.

lamb

Awwww

Be grateful that as an adult you also get to take spontaneous Diet Coke breaks midday and look at cute lamb pictures.

Then get up and go do a nasty project. Pick something that you’d normally hate, it’ll be so much better than the worst thing that magically, your nasty project will seem great.

Me, I’m taking my clean teeth off to mow the lawn.

    Love your words.
Well done! I am terrified of the dentist’s chair… Haven’t been for years and KNOW that I need to.
    NOT very adult of me!

Diet Coke though… I’ll take some of that!

So know the feeling. I avoided it for too long and then payed for it with a crown. But when you do go don’t tell the Dentist about the Diet Coke, they don’t like that much… I don’t feel there is any need to talk to us terrified patients much less reprimand us when we are stuck in their chair! So I’m a terrible patient and don’t tell them anything.

  3. The “favorite beverage” enticement also works as a “not until the nasty job is done” reward. 🙂

Well that’s a different favorite beverage all together. Still brown, good on ice but I try to save that for the end of the day! 🙂

  4. Ditto! I just had a crown done too. Also forked out a fortune but am soooo happy to finally be able to eat properly. Love the lambs… so sweet! Thanks for sharing and here’s to many years of useful crowns for both of us!

I have bad memories of the orthodontist from growing up, so the dentist seems like a piece of cake in comparison! And I’m with you on lawn mowing – I was so happy when my kids were old enough to do it.
