And those apple pests she eats, they lose too.
As soon as we mow the grass short around the trees, the chickens are happy to help us clean up any windfalls, bugs and all, that they find lying on the ground.

I think she’s pretty too, she’s called a Speckled Sussex!
We had chickens when I was a child, and I used to watch them for hours. Always busy doing something, and I thought they were fascinating creatures. Quite companionable, too.
We had chickens when I was a kid too but they were always locked up in their coop- not nearly the entertainment value as a chicken with an apple! π
