Weekly Photo Challenge: Resolved
This week I stepped outside, brand new camera in hand, to take a quick photo of the morning fog. I pulled out my camera went to set it to black and white and had a bit of a panic. While my toes froze and the kids threatened mutiny if breakfast didn’t happen soon I stared at my camera…
How do I use black and white?
Do I use, high contrast monochrome?
High iso monochrome?
Black and white copy?
Do I give up and turn it black and white in Photoshop?
How does this new camera work?!?
So far I’ve no idea, but I’m resolved to figure it all out!
Hi Jessie,
Thank you for your comment on my blog.
I love your courage and resolution! Your photo is lovely.
A class could help if you are startung from scratch but some people are self-learners. If you are going solo, refer to your manual
sorry; my finger skippped… refer to your manual often.
There are so many online resources like articles or photography forums.
I don’t have a b&w button on my older Nikon; I must edit :).
Thanks for visiting, my manual and I are getting to be friends and if you have any favorite online resources I’d love recommendations. Your light photos were inspiring!
Very pretty shot! Your best bet is to make the photo Black and White later, while you’re editing it! You’ll be able to achieve the best results this way and your photo will retain the most quality – when you choose the B&W setting on your camera, the camera is doing the editing for you, only it’s little electronic brain doesn’t always get things right, so sometimes the results won’t be as nice as you could do yourself later on
Thanks for the advice!
Hi Jessie. I always shoot in color and play with the results later. I think shooting in color gives you more options with the photo afterwards.
This photo, however, is lovely. 🙂
Hi Jessie,
Just passing on & b&w link:

Enjoy!

I also prefer to shoot in color and convert to black and white. there are some photos I want to keep a copy of each version. A lot easier to convert from color to b&w than vice versa.

So now in addition to learning my way around my new camera I’m also resolved to get better with my photo editing software! 🙂
And after that, there will be something else.
That’s the photography challenge that keeps it fun, no time for boredom with this hobby!
I don’t know if ANYONE ever “masters” photography.
[…] because the auto focus wouldn’t catch the icicle, I kept with my resolution from last week and on the spot figured out how the manual focus on my camera […]
