As evening approaches, the wind dies and the cries of the purple martins ring out across the lake. Sitting in the grass, camera in hand, I watch the flock. Perched all over their gourds and supporting sticks, they twitter, preen and suddenly take to the air.
Calling, swooping and diving, the sky is filled with purple martins, glowing orange in the light of the setting sun.

Such a relaxing way to spend the evening, thanks for sharing it with us. 🙂
It seemed nicer than sharing pictures of my hooligan children popping out of bed repeatedly while my husband put them back again which what was going on just behind me as I sat in the lawn with my camera. It was a good night for many reasons! 🙂
What a beautiful image 🙂
Thanks, but it hardly did the evening justice. Course that just means I need to take more pictures, and write more- ok by me! 🙂
Lovely.
Thank you.
We have swifts screaming over the rooftops here, and a bat, but they all move far too quickly for me to get a photo!
I love watching all those bug catching birds swoop, but they are hard to catch in action- I have many, many failed photos of the martins!
