Wishes

Today Jane said that the two of us should each make a wish.

She wished to be a fairy-princess-mermaid.

I wished for a nap.

She was quite disappointed in me.

I understood. I was too.

Unfortunately, I’ve found one of the great truths of motherhood to be that more sleep is actually your dearest wish.zinnias

And, sadly, neither one of our wishes came true today.

It’s okay though, Jane says we can wish again tomorrow.

I haven’t seen her swim but I think Jane has the fairy princess thing nailed.

And –as my grandmother (mother of 10) used to say–you can sleep when you’re dead.

Well if Grandma says… Wait, can I use Grandma says as justification for never going to bed at a decent hour and then claim that short naps aren’t real sleep anyway so they don’t count? That’d be great, nobody can argue with Grandma says!

And yeah, Jane’s doing pretty good on her fairy princess, today, after camping for the weekend I told the girls they had to shower when they got home because, school and stink. Jane: “I don’t stink, I smell like a princess.”

I hope we will always have tomorrow…

It’s nice to see a disappointment taken so easily

Well I’m pretty sure Jane knows even wishing won’t give her a mermaid tail and (as Barb’s grandma said,) I can sleep when I’m dead, we were okay with how the day turned out.
