Weekly Photo Challenge: On The Move

Weekly Photo Challenge: On The Movewalleye eggs

Last fall my Dad, with his local Walleyes for Tomorrow chapter, built a “Walleye Wagon“. This “wagon” is actually a portable fish hatchery, just for walleye, and is parked right next to the lake that they both collect the eggs from and release the fry into. Just this last weekend the fish were hatching – we had to stop by and check it out.

Everything was on the move!

The eggs were roiling around on the bottom of the giant flasks, the newly hatched fry were swimming up and floating down, partially hatched ones with just tails sticking out were flailing themselves around in circles, and people were dropping by constantly to see all the excitement.

It was amazing!

You can check out Pewaukee Walleyes website at http://pewaukeewalleyes.wordpress.com/ for more details on how they hatched four million walleye fry!

Last Week

Last week I was without internet all week, it made me feel like this:

But the reason we were sans-internet was because of the excellent time we were having on vacation, which was a feeling much more like this:Now we are back home and all my stories of fly-fishing……swimming…… grilling…

..sailing…

…and Fourth of July fun are fading faster than I can write them as the realities of home life take back over.

So, thank goodness for pictures, I hope they told at least a thousand words a piece for you!

Now you’ll have to excuse me –

The laundry is taking over the house.

The road project is hijacking my brain.

And we all have a severe case of it’s-Monday-and-I’m-no-longer-on-vacation-itis.

I’ll be back to my regular scheduled blogging just as soon as we finish recovering!

The Birthday Party

Sunday was Great Gramps’s Birthday party.

We pulled out the red fat bat and recruited the neighbor kids to join us in a baseball game…

…and made the Birthday Boy all time pitcher.

Gramps did take a turn batting but we called in a pinch runner for him after witnessing the tackle/slide/take down between John and my Dad at second.

A few hours later when we were all baseballed out it was dinner and cake…

…before we headed down to the lake for a little fishing.

The kids pulled fish in one after another…

… until the sun set and the party was over.

Happy Birthday Gramps hope you had as much fun at your party as we did!

Fishing with Tinkerbell

This weekend we spent some time in Pewaukee and Grandma Mary took Ivy down to the bait shop to pick out her very own fishing pole. Ivy is now the proud owner of a purple and green Tinkerbell fishing pole and I am once again left wondering how I got a girl who’s favorite colors are pink and purple!

After dinner that night Ivy and her Grandma went down to the lake with Granny and Great Gramps to go fishing. I popped down for a quick visit after Clara was in bed, to find that Ivy had everything well in hand. Grandma had been instructed where to hold the pole, Great Gramps was holding the line, and Granny was in charge of the spare bobber.   As soon as I showed up, Ivy showed me the fish they already had, a perch that she had caught and a bluegill that Grandma caught. Then I was told to take a picture, that was my job.

Along with all the instructions she was reeling off Ivy was also in charge of reeling in the fish. Shortly after I got there she pulled in a big bluegill.

Grandma Mary: “Ivy it’s a monster!”
Ivy: “No, it not a monster, it a bluegill!” … “A BIG one!”
