This Moment: Rain Drops on Snowdrops
A Friday ritual.
A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week.
A simple, special, extraordinary moment.
A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

Wishes
Today Jane said that the two of us should each make a wish.
She wished to be a fairy-princess-mermaid.
I wished for a nap.
She was quite disappointed in me.
I understood. I was too.
Unfortunately, I’ve found one of the great truths of motherhood to be that more sleep is actually your dearest wish.
And, sadly, neither one of our wishes came true today.
It’s okay though, Jane says we can wish again tomorrow.
Just Because
Just because sometimes, even when – especially when, things don’t go quite as planned I need to remember that it’s always worth it to take a moment, stop – and smell the roses.
Even when the roses are hydrangeas.

I have always liked how purple cone flowers hold their pollen in a circle all around the outer edge of their bright spiky center. This particular flower’s petals were only partially unfurled showing off those spiny looking sepals hiding underneath as well.
It’s no wonder my kids call them “the pokey flowers!”

Rainy Afternoon
It was a rainy afternoon.
It was the gentle kind of rainy afternoon when you can leave the windows open and let the house fill with the fresh wet scent of growing things. It was the kind of rainy afternoon that after you check on the new pigs (sleeping) the new ducklings (sleeping) and goslings (sleeping) that is just perfect for crawling into bed between a child (sleeping) and a cat (sleeping), while your dog curls up next to you on the floor (sleeping).
It was a perfect, sleepy, rainy afternoon.
Sometimes you need vacations from your vacations. We had a great long weekend but I was glad for today’s rain induced napping opportunity!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Dinnertime
One evening, right around when I should have been fixing dinner, I couldn’t go inside. I was stuck on the deck, captivated by all the different kinds of bees flying through a patch of scilla looking for their own dinner.
The girls and I laid on our bellies and watched honey bees, bumble bees, mason bees and assorted flies until our own dinner was severely delayed.
We couldn’t tear ourselves away from the show until I discovered how to use the time lapse feature on my camera, then to keep our shadows out of the picture, we walked away.
When we returned, ten minutes later, dinnertime for the bees seemed to be over and we finally headed inside to start on our own.
